One of the newest neighborhoods in the area, Avalon is a master-planned community in Friendswood, a city in southeast Houston. Friendswood is in the metropolitan area of Houston, The Woodlands, and Sugar Land. Covering 21.2 miles, it began in 1895, founded by a community of Quakers, making it the only permanent city in the state to find its beginnings as a Quaker colony. Both Harris County and Galveston County have a claim on Friendswood, and 41,213 people make their home there, as calculated in the 2020 census.

Things to Do
Built on a foundation of educating people about the culture and history of the area, the Friendswood Historical Society strives to protect local artifacts, landmarks, and buildings. Its museum showcases many photographs and artifacts, and the group puts on many events, tours, lectures, educational programs, and workshops.
Timber Creek Golf Club covers 316 acres of land and contains 27 golf holes. Set among the woods of pine and oak, it has a lovely atmosphere. The club provides expert lessons, excellent service, and a lit driving range for after-dark practice. Between the bar, restaurant, and outdoor pavilion, the Club is an ideal place for private events.
Covering 12.6 acres, the 1776 Park boasts much local flora and fauna, tropical plants, a creek, and a pond. Attracting people of all interests, the memorial park provides a disc-golf course and fishing, jogging, bird watching, and hiking opportunities. Frankie Carter Randolph Park is known for its wide green spaces, multi-use fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, and nature trails. It sits on 93 acres and provides two fully-equipped, well-lighted pavilions of 200 seats each. The local McCarthy Rose grows all over the park.
