The Christmas Boat Parade Weekend Starts and Ends at South Shore Harbour

"The parade features more than 60 brightly decorated power and sailboats that will traverse the channel from the South Shore Harbour Marina and the Nassau Bay Lagoon to Galveston Bay."

That line comes from the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce's page for the 65th Annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade. The parade is set for Saturday, December 12, 2026. For South Shore Harbour, the parade weekend starts at the resort on Saturday morning, sends boats out from the marina that evening, and ends back at the resort on Sunday morning. The Kemah Boardwalk falls in the middle of the route.

Saturday Starts at 2500 South Shore Blvd.

Parade day begins at South Shore Harbour Resort, long before any lights come on. The Chamber requires every entry to send one representative to a 9 a.m. skipper's meeting at the resort, 2500 South Shore Blvd. According to the 2026 boater registration form, that's also where skippers collect their entry numbers, and pickup ends at 10 a.m.

The full weekend, as the Chamber and the registration form list it:

When What Where
Sat., Dec. 12, 9:00 a.m. Mandatory skipper's meeting and shirt pickup South Shore Harbour Resort
Sat., Dec. 12, 10:00 a.m. Entry-number pickup closes South Shore Harbour Resort
Sat., Dec. 12, 6:00 p.m. Fireworks signal the start Nassau Bay Lagoon and South Shore Harbour Marina
Sat., Dec. 12, about 7:30 p.m. Parade enters Seabrook and reaches the Kemah Boardwalk Kemah Channel
Sun., Dec. 13, 9:30 a.m. Awards Brunch Crystal Ballroom, South Shore Harbour Resort

The 6 p.m. start works like a relay. Fireworks over Nassau Bay are the signal. Boats from the Nassau Bay Lagoon head down the Constellation Pointe/Davis Road Canal and join the boats leaving South Shore Harbour Marina. From the marina, the combined parade runs the full length of Clear Lake and through the Kemah Channel past the Boardwalk. Six cities present the event: Clear Lake Shores, Kemah, League City, Nassau Bay, Seabrook and Webster.

Ninety Minutes From the Marina to the Boardwalk

The schedule gives you a real choice about where to watch. The Chamber lists six public viewing areas:

  • Kemah Boardwalk
  • Both sides of the Kemah/Seabrook Channel
  • Nassau Bay Lagoon
  • South Shore Harbour Marina
  • Clear Lake Shores
  • Davis Road Canal/Constellation Pointe

Two of those, South Shore Harbour Marina and Clear Lake Shores, are on your end of the lake. At the marina, you're watching around 6 p.m. as the boats head out. In Kemah, the parade isn't expected until about 7:30 p.m. That gap is roughly the time it takes the boats to cover the length of Clear Lake.

The Kemah end draws the crowd. Visit League City's 2026 winter guide says the parade now draws more than 100,000 spectators and calls the Kemah Boardwalk the best public spot to watch. The Chamber also notes that hundreds of boats traditionally anchor around the lake to watch. At the marina you see the parade at its start, a short trip from home. At the Boardwalk you see it alongside the biggest crowd.

If you'd like dinner with your view, two waterfront spots stand out in the material available this fall:

  • Landry's Seafood House, 1 Kemah Boardwalk. The Boardwalk's dining page describes its view of the bay and boats passing by. Landry's has run a parade-night offer before, with outdoor tables by reservation and a minimum order. That event page is dated for the December 10, 2022 parade, though, and no 2026 version had been posted when this was written.
  • The Flying Dutchman at Kemah Marina. The marina's dining page describes its spacious patio as a place to watch boats go by. It doesn't advertise a Christmas parade event.

Visit League City also notes that several local charters offer special viewing trips, which puts you on the water without entering a boat. No public parade-night watch party at South Shore Harbour Resort or the marina had been announced for 2026 at the time of writing.

Entering a Boat From Your Own Slip

If your boat already lives at South Shore Harbour, entering means motoring to your own marina's starting point. The 2026 form accepts power, sail and manpowered boats as family or sponsored entries. It says boats of all sizes may take part and asks only for your boat's length, with no minimum or maximum.

As of today, October 12, the deadlines line up like this:

  1. October 31. Prepay for parade shirts to guarantee your size. Long-sleeve shirts are $40, or $43 for XXL. Shirts aren't included in the entry fee, and the Chamber says they sell out quickly.
  2. November 30. Last day for the $85 entry fee. Registrations received after November 30 cost $100, day-of registration costs $125, and fees are nonrefundable.
  3. December 12, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. One representative attends the resort meeting and picks up your entry number.
  4. December 12, 6 p.m. Wait for the Nassau Bay fireworks, then fall in with the boats leaving South Shore Harbour Marina.
  5. December 13, 9:30 a.m. Head back to the resort for the Awards Brunch.

Judging has a few firm rules. A boat must be lit and decorated on both the port and starboard sides, show its entry number clearly toward the front, and have had a representative collect that number at the meeting. The form also says not to throw anything from boats. No 2026 theme is listed, so decorations are up to each crew.

Every entry gets a skipper's gift bag and two brunch tickets. Extra brunch tickets cost $45 for adults and $25 for children. Brunch seating is reserved, so extra tickets have to be bought ahead through the Chamber. At the brunch you get a sponsor gift bag, see video and photos of the parade, and find out who won.

The awards trace back to how the parade started. Visit League City tells the story: more than six decades ago, five Bay Area Houston friends put Christmas lights on their boats and cruised Clear Lake on a whim. One of them was Red Adair, the oil well firefighter John Wayne later played in Hellfighters. His name is still on the top prize. The 2026 form lists the Red Adair Memorial Best Overall Sponsored entry, the Jack Campbell Memorial Best Overall Family entry, and the Texas Navy's Most Patriotic award, and says more awards will be given. Questions and payments go to the Chamber's Shari Sweeney at 281-488-7676.

Sailors who want more time on the water before December can find it nearby. The Seabrook Sailing Club's 2026 racing calendar lists a Fall Series race on October 24 and the Club Championship on November 7.

The Resort's Holiday Season Starts Weeks Earlier

The parade weekend is the last of several holiday events at South Shore Harbour Resort, and it comes after a busy run of events around League City and Kemah. Here's the season as listed by Visit League City and the Kemah Boardwalk events calendar:

  • November 19, 2026 to January 2, 2027. A 6-foot gingerbread house goes on display at South Shore Harbour Resort, made with nearly 400 pounds of gingerbread.
  • November 20–21. Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre's Sugar Plum Fairy Gala weekend at the resort, with dinner with Clara & Friends at Paradise Reef Restaurant, the Nutcracker Boutique, and a gala breakfast and tea.
  • Saturdays, November 28 to December 19. Cocoa & Cookies Strolls at the Kemah Boardwalk.
  • December 4–20. Jingle on the Boardwalk in Kemah.
  • Saturday, December 5. League City's Grand Night Parade on Main Street. Holiday music and performances start at 5:30 p.m., and the parade starts at 6:30 p.m., running down Main Street to Park Street.
  • Saturday, December 12. The Christmas Boat Lane Parade, the second Saturday in a row with an evening parade nearby.

The Boardwalk notes that its listings can change without notice, so it's worth checking those dates again closer to the weekend. The gingerbread house will still be on display at the resort during both the skipper's meeting and the Sunday brunch.

If you're thinking about a waterfront home closer to the parade's starting line, or about selling a home where December looks like this, Living Vogue Real Estate and Lisa Marie Sanders can help you think through slips, views and timing before the boats go out. Request a Complimentary Concierge Consultation, and we'll start with the lake as you know it from the South Shore Harbour end.
